Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said on "Fox News Sunday" that overnight a new coronavirus case has been detected in in Chicago. Meanwhile, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced the state's first presumptive positive case.

The big picture: COVID-19 has killed almost 3,000 people and infected almost 87,000 others in over 60 countries and territories outside the epicenter in mainland China, which reported 573 new infections on Sunday taking the total there to 79,824. Outside China, the countries reporting the largest number of infections are South Korea (more than 3,500), Italy (over 1,600) and Iran (almost 600)....

  • U.S. cases: Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) declared a state of emergency Saturday after state health officials announced an outbreak of respiratory symptoms and pneumonia at a long-term care facility associated with two new coronavirus cases in the state. The death in Washington state is not related to the Life Care Center of Kirkland cases.
  • In California, a woman who did not recently travel overseas became the latest case confirmed by officials in the state Friday, a day after Gov. Gavin Newsom said 33 people had tested positive for the virus.
  • There are 66 confirmed cases in the U.S., per a CDC statement Saturday. 44 are from the Diamond Princess cruise, 3 evacuated from Wuhan, 12 are travel-related, 2 are person-to-person infections and 1 may be from "community spread."
  • HHS Secretary Alex Azar said on "Fox News Sunday" that there was a new case detected in Chicago. The Rhode Island Department of Health announced the state's first presumptive positive case — a person in their 40s who had traveled to Italy in mid-February.
  • State public health authorities were monitoring four new presumptive positive cases of the novel coronavirus as of Friday, per the CDC. Three patients in California, Oregon and Washington state were infected by unknown means, the CDC said, while the fourth case in Washington was likely travel related.
  • First deaths: A 78-year-old man repatriated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship to Australia has died of the virus, an Australian health official told reporters on Sunday morning local time.
  • In Thailand, a senior Red Cross official said a 35-year-old man who was also being treated for dengue fever had been killed by the coronavirus.
  • Italy: Reported cases surged 50%, with the total number of people infected jumping from 1,128 to 1,694 from a day earlier, emergency chief Angelo Borrelli said
