President Trump has announced that he will address the nation Tuesday about the national security crisis on the border.

The 9 p.m. address will add the trapping of the presidency as Mr. Trump makes his case for more security speeding amid a government shutdown standoff with Democrats.

“I am pleased to inform you that I will Address the Nation on the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border,” Mr. Trump tweeted Monday.

Early, the White House said Mr. Trump would visit the U.S.-Mexico border Thursday to highlight the national security emergency that he says he wants to fix with a wall or barrier on the border.

Mr. Trump and Capitol Hill Democrats remained locked in a standoff over his demand for more than $5 billion for border security, including a barrier or wall that was one of his top campaign promises.

He also has said that he is considering declaring a national emergency to fund border barriers....
