Rick Gates[1], the star witness in the case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort[2], is likely to begin testifying Monday afternoon, the prosecution told the court.

Mr. Gates[3]‘ testimony will follow that of Cindy LaPorta, an accountant who said she filed doctored documents for Mr. Manafort[4] and Mr. Gates[5], who were at one time partners in a business venture.

Mr. Gates[6] has pleaded guilty to lying to investigators and is now cooperating to detail what prosecutors say is a massive tax and bank fraud to shield money they made working for pro-Russian interests in Ukraine....

The testimony of Mr. Gates[7] could determine the outcome of the case against Mr. Manafort[8], with the government counting on him to give core details of fraud, and the defense hoping to say the blame should actually fall on Mr. Gates[9].
