Republicans are at significant risk of losing a special election in a seat President Donald Trump carried handily in 2016. Republicans began with an initial lead that has steadily closed as Election Day approaches. Rinse and repeat.

The most recent public polls in Ohio’s 12th District have shown a narrow but consistent advantage for GOP state Sen. Troy Balderson over Franklin County Recorder Danny O’Connor, the Democratic nominee.

More specifically, a July 26-31 survey by Monmouth Univ. showed Balderson with a 46-45 percent advantage, but the survey also had O’Connor with the advantage when the pollsters…
